I'm glad you enjoyed your experience with this movie. I, on the other hand, have had a more complex history with it. This is one of the Kubrick movies that I like half of, and it's the back half. The "dawn of man" sequences are fine, but it wasn't until I read the book that I understood what was going on there. If I need ancillary/source material to understand the film, the filmmaker failed IMHO.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, I have seen it on the big screen (not IMAX, but standard theater) and that didn't improve my opinion of it. Yes, it's beautiful, but the storytelling is lacking.
